Why we have fees:

Each year we deliver many thousands of portraits around the world, which involves many transport costs. There is also staff time (equivalent to a teacher's salary), and smaller costs like printing, postage, and supplies. We also make donations to the organizations caring for the kids who receive our portraits.
To generate these funds we calculate the total budget needed for the year and divide it by the approximate number of artists who will participate. Currently that results in $15 per artist. Please ask us for help getting funding if you are in need of assistance.
