Thank you for making portraits for children in Peru!
We know that many teachers use the Portrait Program as a chance to teach their students about the lives and culture of the children for whom they create portraits. Feel free to use the following resources to guide your discussions.
Peru is more than jungles, mountains, and the majesty of Machu Picchu; it is also the deeply impoverished slums outside of Lima and the children who live there without access to proper education, health care, or sanitation. Many of these children are already having to work and take care of their siblings to help their families survive. In situations like this, it helps to know that others are paying attention, and that young people like your art students truly care about their well being. Each portrait from your students will be a message of love and understanding that will help show these children they are not forgotten.
