Written on standard, letter-sized 8.5 x 11 in. paper
Inspired by prompts like:
What kind of future do you hope for?
Picture a perfect world. What does it look like?
What do you hope for the future of others around the world?
Picture something that makes you feel happy. Write down what you see.
Make it personal. You will receive photos of the poetry from the children abroad at the beginning of the process. Feel free to have your student's poem be a response to that poetry. If the child abroad writes about their cat, for example, your student might be inclined to write a poem about their own beloved pet.
Encourage creativity. The poems can be completely abstract, literal, or anything in between!
ON THE BACK:
Student photo. It is essential to attach a nice, respectable photo of the student who created the artwork. All children in this exchange must be able to see each other through a photo on the back. If this is not possible for you, please contact us to discuss alternative solutions.
Hand outline. Each student traces an outline of their hand as a way of symbolically touching hands with the child on the other side.
Student's name and age. Each student writes their first name (only) and age inside the tracing of the hand. For security purposes, students are not allowed to include any contact information.
